Competition Law is still a newly studied field in Viet Nam. Research results in this field are used mainly for developing Competition Law. Some universities include the Competition Law in the curriculum related to Business Law (Economic Law). However, there are still no official textbooks in this field.
From that reality, the EU – Viet Nam MUTRAP III Project invited 3 experts: Assoc. Prof, Dr. Le Danh Vinh, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade (MOIT) cum Chairman of Viet Nam Competition Authority (VCA), MA Nguyen Ngoc Son and MA Hoang Xuan Bac to compile a textbook for Competition Law of which Prof. Le Danh Vinh is the Chief Editor. This textbook was completed and published in June 2010 and can be used as teaching and reference material for students majoring in Legal studies from the academic year of 2010 - 2011. EU - MUTRAP III gave the textbook to the University of Economics and Law (UEL), Viet Nam National University, Ho Chi Minh City (VNU-HCM). The textbook giving ceremony was organized on 24th July, 2010, in HCM city.
Participants to the Ceremony were Assoc. Prof, Dr. Le Danh Vinh, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Luan, Rector UEL and Dr. Hoang Vinh Long, Vice Rector UEL, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoang Thuy, Deputy Director General of Multilateral Trade Policy Department, MOIT, Project Director of EU – Viet Nam MUTRAP III and representatives from many organizations, and universities in Ho Chi Minh City
The textbook publication is an activity in the framework of the Project which aims at "strengthening the capacity of the competition policy stakeholders to ensure consumer protection and a fair and level playing field for all businesses through the implementation of the new competition law”.
In this textbook, the authors want to introduce theoretical background of the Competition Law, the application of international experience in this field and in-depth knowledge for for students majoring in Legal Studies. This textbook is also a useful reference material for disseminating and strengthening the awareness on competition law, as well as for the enforcement of the Competition Law in Viet Nam in a consistent and unified manner.
